Important information to consider in upcoming package designs and updates… The FDA announced the first update in 20 years to the Nutrition Label. Changes will be gradual, over the next two years, but before the July 2018 deadline. Key updates to the label are designed to help consumers make informed decisions. Key updates include:

  • Increased type size for “Calories,” “servings per container,” and the “Serving size” declaration, and bolding the number of calories and the “Serving size” declaration.
  • Listing the actual amount of vitamins and minerals, in addition to percent Daily Value of vitamin D, calcium, iron and potassium as well as a new footnote.
  • Updated nutrition science information that is consistent with the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
  • Updated serving sizes and specific requirements for certain size packages.
